ABOUT THE ARTIST
Carol Irving, a Detroit native, is a Michigan-based fiber artist known for her handwoven rugs. Her journey to weaving began with an initial exploration in college, followed by a move to the Upper Peninsula at age 24 and subsequent self-directed learning. She further refined her skills through workshops with renowned weavers like Peter Collingwood, deepening her expertise in weft-faced textiles and shaft switching. Inspired by her background in Botany, she weaves vibrant images and designs, ranging from contemporary and geometric to organic. Committed to excellent craftsmanship, her work is not only functional but also visually striking, exhibiting bold designs and intricate detail. Carol Irving’s pieces have earned awards and are collected by numerous individuals and institutions across the US.
